In a heart-rending incident, a two-year-old female child was found abandoned by her mother at City Railway Station here yesterday.

It is said, at about 11 am, the child was found crying on platform No. 1. The passengers thought that the child might belong to a beggar and waited for some time.

When nobody came to take the child for a long time, the public informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Shivaswamy and Head Constable P. Ramesh took the child to their custody and tried to pacify her but to no avail. Then they informed the child helpline.

Helpline Convenor Saraswathi and staff, who arrived at the spot, took possession of the child. Being less than five years, as per norms, the child was sent to Bapuji Children’s Home in Yadavagiri.

On observing that the child was crying, uttering the words Ammi...Ammi in Urdu in between, the Railway Police summoned a Muslim couple first to console the child and feed her. They tried to elicit the names of the child’s parents, which proved futile. With no options left, the Police had to send the child to Bapuji Children’s Home.

The Railway Police have appealed to the parents or relatives of the child to contact them or the Child Helpline by calling 1098.
