Lakhs of devotees celebrated Mahashivaratri at their homes and temples in the city with great religious ardour and piety. Special pujas, abhishekas and bhajans were held throughout the night yesterday.
Floral decorations and rangoli adorned the temples and devotees were distributed bilvapatre and prasada.
The Trineshwara Swamy temple in the Palace premises had one more attraction to the devout — the Lord adorned with golden mask or Chinnada Kolaga.
Pujas and cultural programmes were also held at Kamakameshwari temple on Ramanuja Road, Mahabaleshwara Swamy temple on Chamundi Hill, Prasanna Nanjundeshwara temple in Shivarampet, Sri Amruteshwara Swamy temple on Dewan’s Road, Sri Chandramouleshwara Swamy temples in VV Mohalla and K.G. Koppal, Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple in K. Hemmanahalli, Srikanteshwara temple in Nanjangud among other temples.
At Mutts: Special pujas were performed to the gadduge of Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Swamiji at Suttur, Mahaganapathi homa and other pujas at Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt, Rudrabhisheka & gangotsava at Ganapati Sachchidananda Ashram, Akhanda Nama Sankeerthane at Sri Satyasai organisation in Chamarajapuram, discourse on Bhagavata - Dashamaskanda in Ramakrishna Ashrama.
A religious photo expo and Amaranatha darshana were held at Brahmakumari Eshwariya Vishwavidyalaya in city as part of Shivaratri celebrations.
