Over 150 members of the newly-constituted Muslim University Opposition Committee staged a protest in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple near Palace here today opposing the move of the Central Government to establish Tipu Muslim University in Srirangapatna.

The members alleged that the Centre’s move to open a University for the minority community was a sheer act of vote bank politics ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2014. They added that Aligarh Muslim University was already a problem factor and such a Varsity here would surely trigger more communal problems in the future.

Ex-MLC Thontadarya, ex-Corporators Murali, Mahadevamma and Nandish Preetham, MUDA Chairman L. Nagendra, leaders T. Ramesh Srivatsa, M.L. Premkumar, Satish, Advocate Bhaskar and others took part.
