Condemning the State government for the “abrupt” transfer of MCC Commissioner Dr. M.R. Ravi to Shimoga, a group of about 100 persons led by former Mayor Purushotham staged a dharna at the DC’s office here this morning.

Speaking to media persons, Purushotham alleged that the government had deliberately transferred Dr. Ravi under the pretext of election and questioned as to why he alone was targeted and not other IAS and KAS officers who too were serving in their home districts.

“Moreover, the poll schedule has not yet been announced, which shows that the move is anti-Dalit,” he said.

Purushotham further said that if the government did not reinstate Dr. Ravi as MCC Commissioner in three days’ time, all the pourakarmikas of the city would strike work and launch an indefinite dharna.

The protestors shouted slogans against District In-Charge Minister S.A. Ramdas and the State government. They later submitted a memorandum to DC Dr. Ramegowda.

Dalit leader Uday, SC/ST Graduates’ Federation President A. Ravi, Mysore University Researchers’ Association President Raghavendra and Mysore University Dalit Students’ Federation’s Manoj Kumar were present.
