Mysore, May 31 (MTY&KMC)-Nearly 2000 Pourakarmikas of the Mysore City Corporation took out a procession holding up broomsticks from the Town Hall to the DC office this morning, seeking fulfillment of their various demands.

The contract Pourakarmikas, who were on a relay fast since May 24, have decided to strike work from today, supported by permanent Pourakarmikas.

Women Pourakarmikas marched in the procession holding broomsticks (as a symbol of their profession) while several men danced to the beats of thamate, drums and other musical instruments played by groups in the procession.

The Pourkarmikas have decided to intensify their agitation in phases beginning today, and have sought the support of various organisations.

Ex-MLA M.K. Somashekar, former Mayor Narayan, Pourakarmikas District Association President N. Mara, City President Aiyappa, General Secretary Srinivas, Dhanraj, Raju, Subramanya and others led the protest.
