City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem has directed his subordinates to consider crime prevention and detection on a priority basis along with maintaining law and order in the city.
Addressing a review meeting about the progress made in crime detection at the Police Commissioner’s office in Nazarbad yesterday from 4 pm to 6.45 pm, Dr. Saleem said that the incidents of chain-snatching, mobile phone snatching, house burglary and other such crimes posed challenges for the Police Department.
He said that patrolling during evenings and nights must be intensified, they must keep an eye on suspicious-looking persons and the Police Constables attached to Garuda, PCR, Cheetah and Special Branch must take care that chain-snatching and phone-snatching incidents do not recur.
In view of the fast-approaching Dasara festival, Dr. Saleem said that since a large number of tourists visit the city during the festival season, the criminals will be at their best in diverting the tourists’ attention and robbing them of their valuables. Hence, he called upon the Police officers to join hands with the district administration in making the city safe and tourist-friendly.
He also called upon the Police personnel to make a thorough inspection of the dais and seating places of the venues where Dasara-related programmes will be taking place to prevent untoward incidents.
During the review meeting, all the Police Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors of crime Division provided statistics of crimes reported and detected in their respective jurisdictions.
DCP (Law & Order) A.N. Rajanna, DCP (Crime & Traffic) M.M. Mahadevaiah, ACP C.D. Jagadeesh and other officers attended the meeting.
