Close on the heels of Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar stating that it was difficult for the Government to take back the New Type Model School (NTMS) on Narayana Shastri road in city through a circular, Swami Muktidanandaji, President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashram in Yadavagiri, Mysore, yesterday clarified that the Ashram was committed to construct a Memorial for Swami Vivekananda only if there is no compromise on the issue of public service and there is no controversy. Memorial will come up only with the support and co-operation of the people, the Swamiji said.
Reacting to reports that several litterateurs, artistes and others had presented a memorandum to Chief Minister Siddharamaiah to take back the NTM School, Swami Muktidanandaji told SOM that there was no question of compromise on the objectives of the memorial as it is going to be a service centre and appealed to all those who opposed the idea to cooperate with the Ashram on the issue.
He said that a Cultural and Youth Centre would be established along with a memorial of Vivekananda at the premises, he said that the Centre would emerge as a study centre for moral education among the youth and several courses on moral and spiritual education will be started where daily lectures from renowned personalities will also be organised.
Swami Muktidanandaji regretted that those who are opposing the proposal were not fully aware of the activities that would be taken up in the centre and added that all efforts would be made to convince the protestors to agree for setting up of the memorial.
He also said that children of NTM School would be admitted to the nearby Devaraja School to pursue their education without hindrance.
Stating that no social service could be possible by force, he opined that the memorial will be set up with love and affection of the people and expressed confidence that the memorial would be a jewel among other heritage buildings of the city.
Asked what would the Ashram do if the school and the adjoining area were taken back, Swamiji said that a suitable decision would be taken after due consultations with senior seers of Ramakrishna Mutt and Mission in Kolkata and well-wishers of Mysore.
