Former ZP President K. Marigowda said that Chief Minister Siddharamaiah’s birthday will be celebrated in a meaningful manner on Aug. 12 by facilitating the release of nine prisoners, who have completed their jail term but still languishing in the Mysore Central Jail unable to pay the fines.

Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, Marigowda said the nine prisoners who were going to be released were B.V. Somasekhar (Somu) of Ballurhundi in Nanjangud, Seethu of Kammaragodu in Chikmagalur District, Jenukuruba Mari of Nallur in Kodagu, Mahesh of Honnahalli in Chamarajanagar, Kempegowda of Shivalli in H.D. Kote, Kumar Aradhya of Nanjangud, Johnson of N.R. Mohalla in Mysore, Puttamadaiah of Hosamalangi in Chamarajanagar and Jayaram of Yelwal Hobli in Mysore taluk.

Journalist Rajasekhar Koti will inaugurate the function in the Jail premises at 11 am on Aug. 12. Critic Prof. K.S. Bhagawan, MLAs Tanveer Sait, Vasu and M.K. Somasekhar will be the chief guests on the occasion.

Congress Corporators will celebrate Siddharamaiah’s birthday by performing Abhisheka to Goddess Chamundeshwari at 5 am on Aug. 12. The other programmes across the city to mark the occasion include distribution of sweets to blind students, presentation of uniforms to 70 pourakarmikas, free health checkup camp at Vijayanagar, fruits distribution at Chayadevi old age home, distribution of school books at Vasanthnagar, distribution of shoes to students of Devaraj Urs School, Blood donation camps and distribution of sarees to poor women. ZP members Koorgalli Mahadev, Javarappa and Javaregowda, Corporator Shivanna, Congress leader C.N. Manjegowda and others were present at the press meet.
