Prof. M.N. Pattabhiraman (80), retired professor of the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), passed away in city yesterday following a heart attack.
He was admitted to Vikram Hospital three days ago following illness.
Born on Mar. 20, 1933, he joined NIE on Aug. 26, 1958 as a Lecturer in the Department of Physics and retired on March 31, 1991 as Professor & Head of the Department.
Associating himself with social service, Prof. Pattabhiraman served as Secretary of Rotary Mysore South East and as Senate Member of Mysore University.
Both of his daughters Charulatha and Snehalatha live in the US and arrived in city as soon as they learnt of his illness. His brother Dr. Sudarshan, who is a renowned Psychiatrist, recently returned from London after serving there for many years.
Snehalatha's husband and children are yet to arrive from the US and hence, the last rites will be performed on Wednes-day or Thursday, according to family sources.
Condoled: NIE Hon. Secretary S.L. Ramachandra, who was a student of Prof. Pattabhiraman and Principal Dr. G.L. Shekar have condoled the demise of Prof. Pattabhiraman on behalf of the NIE Managing Committee.
