The District Administration held a co-ordination meeting at the office of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) here this morning to discuss about providing better railway facilities in city.

MP H. Vishwanath, MLAs Vasu and Tanveer Sait, Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, MCC Commissioner P.G. Ramesh, MUDA Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, DRM Vinod Kumar and Chief Engineer C.M. Ranganath attended.

Tanveer Sait brought to the notice of the meeting that the Railways were not extending needed co-operation in development works being taken up by MCC and MUDA.

Citing an example, he said that the proposed Devaraj Urs Bhavan to come up in front of Mandovi Motors on KRS Road near the City Railway Station was still on cards as the permission from the Railways was still awaited. He sought better facilities at City Railway Station with good security arrangements.

The delegation of elected representatives suggested the DRM that the Metagalli New Goods Terminal could be upgraded to a full-fledged Railway Station to augment the congestion at City Station.

Vasu sought clearance from the Railways to develop a good road connectivity from Bannimantap to Metagalli Goods Terminal. He also suggested upgradation of Chamarajapuram Railway Station and constructing a good overhead walk-way for pedestrians by removing the existing level crossing gate, thus easing the traffic congestion.

DRM Vinod Kumar said that the suggestions would be considered favourably as there was space crunch at City Railway Station for further expansion.

MP Vishwanath suggested both the District Administration and the Railways to work in tandem with good co-ordination.

The delegation later inspected Metagalli Goods Terminal and Chamarajapuram Railway Station to take stock of the situation. The next meeting has been scheduled in the first week of August.
