Bangalore, Apr. 21 (KMS& KMC)- The Heritage City of Mysore is to be tagged with yet another nomenclature: Green City of India, announced Urban Development Minister S. Suresh Kumar, who also is In-Charge Minister for Mysore district.
Addressing a press conference at the Vidhana Soudha here today, Suresh Kumar said that the State Government, in association with the British Government, envisaged to launch an environment-friendly project in which Mysore is chosen to retain its heritage value and historic import and make the city free from environment pollution.
Emphasis will be laid on cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation, checking carbon emission of vehicles and encouraging the use of solar energy, Suresh Kumar said and added that talks were on with UNESCO, under which programme, more funds were expected from the Centre.
The horse-driven Tonga in city will be remodelled into heritage chariots, making it a trademark of the heritage city and thus attract tourists, he said.
