Mysore, the cultural capital of Karnataka, will soon be declared as a Heritage City by the Karnataka Government, said Tourism Minister R.V. Deshpande here yesterday.
Answering a query from MLA Tanveer Sait during Question Hour in the Karnataka Assembly, Deshpande said that the Union Government had already declared Mysore as a Heritage City and the Karnataka Government will soon follow suit.
Tourist spots: Stating that there were many places of tourist attraction in a radius of 35 kilometers from Mysore, the Minister said that huge amount of money will be provided for development of infrastructure at these places for the benefit of visitors.
Tourism Info Office: Stating that the project of setting up of Tourism Information Office and constructing more rooms in Hotel Mayura in Mysore at a cost of Rs. 5 crore was in progress, he said that Rs. 3.51 crore had been released for the purpose.
Kukkarahalli Lake/Zoo: The Minister, who said that Rs. 2 crore had been provided for developing Kukkarahalli Lake into a tourist spot, said that Rs. 1.5 crore had already been released besides providing Rs. 10 lakh for providing water facility to the Golf Club and Rs. 25 lakh for construction of toilets at Mysore Zoo.
Heritage Path: Deshpande also said that Rs. 10 lakh had been provided for setting up of a Tourist Information Centre at Mysore Railway Station and added that a Heritage Path would be laid around Amba Vilas Palace under Central Government sponsored JNNURM Project.
Continuing, he said that Rs. 38.99 lakh would be allocated for construction of a lawn and parking lot at Town Hall in Mysore and added that the work of opening Indian Heritage City office in Mysore at a cost of Rs. 110 lakh was in progress. Rs. 85 lakh has already beeen released for the same, he added.
Fencing of Lalitha Mahal: Rs. 63 lakh had been sanctioned for fencing Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel, he said and added that Rs. 50 lakh has been earmarked for renovation of St. Philomena’s Church out of which Rs. 20 lakh had already been released.
