The Railway Department will initiate measures to complete the on-going Bangalore-Mysore track doubling work and electrification of the track by 2014, said Chalavadi T. Narayanaswamy, President of Indian Railway Board (Passenger Services), here yesterday.
Addressing a press conference after inspecting the facilities provided to tourists visiting Mysore and Srirangapatna on the eve of Mysore Dasara at the Railway Station in the sugar town, he said that track doubling work would be completed before the year-end subject to finding of solutions to the problems faced in Srirangapatna and Maddur.
Elaborating on the problems, he said that the issue of shifting Tipu’s armoury in Srirangapatna and a nine acre rice mill at Shivapura, near Maddur were the major problems in the track doubling work and hence urged the elected representatives and the district administration to find a solution to these problems and enable completion of works by the end of the year.
Declaring that there was no paucity of funds for the electrification of the track, Narayanaswamy said that the electrification work had been completed upto Ramanagaram and added that one Papu of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha had demanded that express trains provide a stop at Srirangapatna.
Narayanaswamy also said that President of Rakshana Vedike H.D.Jayaram has sought withdrawal of cases filed against farmers during the Cauvery agitation and the same could be solved at the local level if the cases were minor in nature. On the issue raised by former Minister M.S. Athmananda seeking construction of an over-bridge between Mahaveer circle and Bandigowda layout, he said that the issue required scrutiny as there were residential buildings in the area and the district administration was capable and empowered to solve the issue.
He further said that he would initiate talks with concerned officials on the issue of providing safety to passengers in all places including Mysore, more so on the eve of Dasara which draws large crowds to Mysore.
Board members Alam khan, Narayana Reddy, Town Municipal members Siddaraju and Jayanna were present.
