The Salafi Muslim Association had organised a mass prayer at the Eidgah grounds located inside Bal Bhavan in Bannimantap. The uniqueness of the mass prayer was the presence of a large number of Muslim women. Usually in Muslim community women are not allowed to offer prayers in a Mosque or at the Eidgah Maidan. But the Salafi community, which comprises members from Kerala, provided an opportunity for city women to offer prayers.
The mass prayer began at around 7.45 am and ended at 9.15 am. Moulana Saleem rendered the prayers while Abdul Wasi delivered the Ramzan speech. Among those who offered mass prayer included Chescom MD A.B. Ibrahim and his family members.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, Ibrahim said that most of the countries in Asia like India and Pakistan do not allow women to offer prayers in mosques or Eidgah grounds. There have been many discussions on the topic. When women are allowed to offer prayers at Mecca and Madina why not in mosques and Eidgah grounds here? he asked.
Muslim women are given opportunity to offer prayers at the Mosques on Ashoka Road, Bannimantap, Ghousianagar, Subash Nagar and Shanthi Nagar.
A total of 600 Muslim community members, including 300 women offered prayers at Bannimantap. Salafi Muslim Association Secretary Qasim, Eidgah President Moinuddin and others were present.
