“With the city having a population of about 10 lakh, it has become necessary to establish a hospital on the lines of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (NIMHANS),” suggested MLA Vasu to Minister of Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake.
He was addressing the Progress Review Meeting called by the Minister at MUDA office here on Friday.
Vasu pointed out that the poor people involved in accidents seek treatment at the ill-equipped K.R. Hospital as they could not afford treatment at expensive private hospitals.
The absence of a Trauma Centre in city was taking precious lives of people getting severe head injuries in accidents, he added suggesting that the vacant space next to Malai Mahadeshwara Temple in Paduvarahalli be utilised for establishing a NIMHANS unit and a Trauma Centre before the area was acquired for a different purpose.
MLA M.K.Somashekar and MLC Sandesh Nagaraj urged MUDA to exercise control on House Building Societies in city as they had increased several fold in the recent years. They utilised the UGD system, power connection, water supply and roads provided in MUDA layouts thus making good profit, they added.
They alleged that MUDA too instead of providing sites to the citizens, was indiscriminately allotting sites to Housing Societies indirectly supporting the latter.
MUDA Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath briefed the Minister on the works taken up by MUDA.
