There is a need to start Sports University in the State and the ideal place to start one is Mysore, said MLA Vasu.

He was speaking after inaugurating the divisional-level U-14 and U-16 school cricket tournament jointly organised by Mysore Zilla Panchayat and Department of Public Instructions at Maharaja’s College grounds here this morning.

Vasu said he would hold talks with Education Minister about the suggestion to award grace marks for the sports achievers in SSLC and PUC level.

A total of 12 teams, from both U-14 and U-16 categories are participating from the Mysore division.

The Mysore Division comprises Mysore, Mandya, Hassan, Chikmagalur, Mangalore and Udupi districts. Teams from these districts will be participating in the divisional level cricket tournament.

The divisional level cricket will be held for two days and later a team will be selected to represent at the inter-divisional cricket tournament, comprising 4 diviMLA

The tournament is being organised to select the U-14 and U-16 boys’ cricket teams to represent in the State level tournament to be held later in the year.
