As part of the National Sports Day, which is being celebrated all over the country to mark the birth anniversary of Indian Hockey legend Padmashri Maj. Dhyanchand, hundreds of sports persons from various schools, colleges, sports associations and Government Departments took out a Mass Walk in city today at 7.30 am.

The Mass Walk, organised under the auspices of National Sports Day Celebration Committee, was flagged off from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple near Mysore Palace by City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A.Saleem.

Sports persons from Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore, District Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), SAI, Mysore District Athletic Association, Good Shepherd Convent and students from different colleges and schools participated in the walk which passed through K.R. Circle, Devaraj Urs road, JLB Road and culminated at the Mysore University Sports hockey grounds.

Valedictory of Mass Walk: SP Abhinav Kare garlanded the portrait of Dhyanchand at a function held at the pavilion.

Addressing the gathering, he said that three national-level sports have been organised during this year’s Dasara sports meet. Stating that the Govt. of Karnataka was coming up with a world class hockey turf at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium, he called upon the players to be physically fit to excel in sports.

IAS officer Annies, Celebration Committee office-bearers Ln. K. Krishne Gowda, Dr. Pulikeshi Shetteppanavar, Dr. B.G. Sagar and C.K. Muralidharan, Physical Directors, PE teachers and coaches of various schools and colleges were present.
