K.B. Markandeya assumed charge as the new Director of Mysore Zoo from the outgoing in-charge Director Yathish Kumar this morning.
N.T. Vijayakumar too assumed charge as the new Deputy Director from the present incumbent K.D. Belliappa.
Speaking to SOM, Markandeya lauded the Mysore Zoo as one of the best in the world.
"I will strive to make the ambience in the Zoo much more natural with improved enclosures for animals. The aged animals will be relocated with the induction of young animals. Prominence will be given to bring in rare species from other places under the animal exchange programme. More thrust will be given for animal adoption. Amenities for tourists and welfare of staff too will be improved," said Markandeya.
