The 37th annual District Convention titled Sneha Sethu organised by Lions Clubs International District 317-A commenced this morning at Senate Bhavan in Manasagangotri here.

About 2,000 members of various Lions Clubs of the District 317-A are participating in the convention.

Inaugurating the programme, Dharmakartharu of Horanadu Annapoorneshwari temple Dr. Bheemeshwara Joshi lauded Lions Clubs in providing a confluence of service and pure friendship. He opined that richness should be through heart and not through materialistic ostentation and added that good morals paved way for refined culture. He opined that when people in the west were looking for spirituality, Indians should reconcile and preserve the culture.

Renowned theatre personality Master Hirannaiah, speaking as the chief guest, said in a lighter vein that he was always an opposition leader having criticised almost all political leaders. He recalled that when the country got Independence, the population was just 33 crore which shot up to 120 crore along with crores of black money indicating the deplorable state of the country. Recalling words of writer Beechi, he said Saththanthe badukabeda, Saththameloo baduku.”

MLA Tanveer Sait was the guest of honour. District Governor M.V. Deviprasad presided. Former MLC D. Madegowda was present. Seva Ratna awards were presented to Lakshmidevi N. Pradhan and Sadashivaiah, the Lion members, for their service.
