The entire city was buzzing with activity by 7 am today with the clean city drive launched by Let’s do it! Mysore evoking a thunderous response with thousands of residents of all ages setting out to clean the city.
The cleaning campaign was formally launched outside Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple in the Palace. District In-charge Minister S.A. Ramdas, Bishop Dr. Thomas Anthony Vazhapilly, Sir Khazi of Mysore Mohammed Usman Sharif, Immadi Madiwala Mutt Swamiji, MLA Tanveer Sait, Police Commissioner K.L. Sudheer, DCPs Basavaraj Malagathi and K.P. Bheemaiah, Let’s do it! Mysore convenor Prashanth collectively took up cleaning of the area from temple up to Chamarajendra Circle.
About 250 people had gathered near the Palace.
DC Dr. Ramegowda and MCC Commissioner P.G. Ramesh too joined the campaign later.
About 2,500 women from Jain associations too joined it.
The 65 wards had been divided into 650 clusters with Corporators of all wards actively participating in the cleaning activity along with pourakarmikas.
The District Lorry Owner’s Association had reportedly provided 300 lorries to shift the garbage assisted by 160 auto tippers. Cleaning implements were provided by various organisations.
Two ambulances were provided by hospitals to every ward to meet any eventuality.
Ramdas assured that the waste collected would be utilised to generate bio-gas and electricity for which homework was being done.
The pourakarmikas who were doing regular cleaning in extensions were taken by surprise with the appearance of so many volunteers equipped with cleaning aids which boosted the morale of the latter.
The campaign began early at 7 am and was to end at 10 am but was extended till noon.
