The long stretch of park linking Sharadadevinagar and Bogadi Road in city was abuzz with activity from 7 am today with over 800 volunteers comprising engineers, doctors, students and members of NGOs clearing piles of garbage and debris.

The event was a mock drill by volunteers of Let’s do it! Mysore campaign, an initiative taken by concerned citizens to clean Mysore city in just one day. The group is scheduled to clean the city on Feb. 20 and is training their volunteers for the big day. The drill was launched by MCC Health Officer Dr. Nagaraj.

The volunteers were supported by 25 pourakarmikas with Green City, an NGO providing the needed equipment like pokers, cutters and shovels. MCC had lined up about 25 tippers to shift the garbage from the park.

Snake Shyam was present as a precautionary measure just in case the volunteers encounter any snakes. Corporator Shankar, members of Sharadadevinagar Welfare Association and others actively participated in the drill.

An awareness on ills of littering in public places was instantly created by the operation, thus roping in residents of the extension with little or no persuasion.

Travel Agents Association President Prashanth spearheaded the drill. Those interested to join may call Ph. No. 4001100.
