Former DGP Shankar Bidari, who joined the Congress party recently, has called upon all respectable persons to enter politics in order to cleanse the political system.
He was speaking at Nanjangud Congress candidate V. Sreenivas Prasad’s election rally organised at Kavalanda in the taluk yesterday.
“Politics has stooped to a new low as the honest and dedicated members of the society have kept a distance from it. But it is not too late to cleanse the system even now. As such, the respectable personalities in the society should enter politics,” he said and called upon them to join the Congress.
Coming down heavily on the BJP Government in the State, Shankar Bidari accused the BJP leaders of looting the State exchequer.
Terming Sreenivas Prasad as a gentleman, Bidari stressed the need for re-electing Prasad from Nanjangud constituency.
Observing that only the Congress can provide social justice, Bidari appealed the electorate to vote for Sreenivas Prasad and elect him with a majority of over 25,000 votes.
MLA Sreenivas Prasad, in his address, questioned whether development can be expected from the BJP, whose several leaders and Ministers have been jailed on charges of corruption.
Stressing that he had never indulged in hate politics throughout his career, Prasad said that there were no clashes in Nanjangud constituency over the past 5 years and that he had strived hard to maintain harmony amongst communities.
Prasad appealed the electorate to vote the Congress for providing a stable government and good governance.
Chamarajanagar MP R. Dhruvanarayan too addressed the gathering.
Nanjangud constituency AICC observer Shankaran, former Chamarajanagar MLA C. Guruswamy, KPCC member K.R. Mohan Kumar, District Women Congress President Meena Thoogudeepa Srinivas, social worker U.N. Padmanabha Rao and others were present at the election rally.
