Mysore, Oct. 18 (ACP&DM)- This was the last Dasara for the Mahout of Balarama. Mahout Sannappa who has been in-charge of Balarama for the past 12 years, will retire in December this year.
Many had anticipated that this would be the last Dasara for the 52-year-old Balarama too, on account of his old age.
But veterinary Surgeon Dr. Nagaraj, who is in-charge of Dasara elephants, set aside speculations saying that Balarama can carry the howdah next year also.
It is not learnt who would replace Sannappa.
This time, Balarama, the howdah elephant, donned jewellery worth about Rs.1 lakh adding glitter to its majestic walk. The traditonal Panchaloha anklets with small bells and tusks sheaths adorned the jumbo's feet and tusk. The kumki elephants, Mary and Sarala were also bejewelled.
