Kuppanna Park, with a historical background situated in the heart of the city, has failed to attract people owing to poor maintenance.
The park, also called Nishadbagh near Hardinge Circle, lies on a 10 acre plot and Mysore City Corporation (MCC) got a musical fountain constructed there to attract people. With a lot of fanfare, the park was inaugurated after renovation some time ago. Rs. 1 crore was reportedly sanctioned for the horticulture wing of MCC to develop the garden and another Rs. 97 lakh for the musical fountain and other electrical works.
Initially, the musical fountain was switched on daily and after Dasara, it was switched on only on holidays and special festivals. However, it is said that the fountain has been switched off for the last 15 days probably due to some problem in the electrical system.
Barring the stoppage of the musical fountain, the park seems to be very dirty with no regular cleaning and the main gate to the park is believed to be always kept closed with public not getting attracted to enter the park.
It is said that only two persons have been deployed to clean the park which is obviously too less for the spacious area.
Public feel that MCC authorities should realise the gravity of the situation and restore the park to its original grandeur and cleanliness having spent a good lot of money on renovation work.
