The century-old Krishnarajendra Hospital (KR Hospita), popularly known as 'Doddaspathre' which caters to people coming from different parts of Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya and Kodagu districts is crying for attention as the hospital is in a dilapidated condition.
Despite frequent repairs, the building is not strong and has become a concern for the hospital authorities.
The recent collapse of a part of the lintel (chajja) injuring two persons has sounded the warning bell to the authorities to act immediately.
If one goes around the hospital, they can see weeds growing on roofs, lintels, walls, broken drainage pipes, non- functioning fountain. The hospital needs a fresh coat of paint too.
One develops a sense of fear to enter the Stone Building in the hospital premises which is damaged, with ramps in bad condition that may collapse anytime. The toilets in many blocks also need maintenance and hygiene.
Shivamma, a patient from T.N. Pur who had come to the hospital for treatment, speaking to SOM said that "the hospital provides good treatment and we have no problem regarding it, but we are afraid of the condition of the hospital building." This statement was duly supported by many patients.
When SOM contacted Dr. B.G. Sagar, Hospital Superintendent, he said that the repair works have been entrusted to the Public Works Department (PWD) who has commenced the repair works.
It is sad to see that the hospital which is one of the landmarks in city is in a bad shape with no regular maintenance. Hope the authorities take up the maintenance works on regular basis to keep the building fit.
