Mysore, July 21 (KCU)- The Deputy Commissioner Harsha Gupta has announced that a kite-flying show and competition would be organised as part of Independence Day celebrations on Aug. 15 to draw better public participation and also add a bit of grandeur to the function.

Presiding over a meeting to review the preparations for the function at his office here yesterday, Gupta said the show would be held possibly at the University Sports Grounds from 3 pm to 6 pm that day. He added that Kite Flying Clubs too would be given an opportunity to participate.

Flag hoisting: Briefing the officers on the programme, Gupta said "All officers should mandatorily hoist the national flag at their respective offices in the morning on Aug. 15. They along with the subordinates should be present before 9 am at Chamundi Vihar Stadium for the main function. They should be present before the National Anthem is played. Permission or leave should not be granted for any staff on that day." After flag hoisting by the District in-charge Minister and the march-past, students of schools and colleges will present a cultural programme. The evening programme at Town Hall will feature patriotic songs by students and a show sponsored by the Department of Kannada and Culture. Bus facilities will be made for the students to participate in the programme, he assured.

No plastic flags:The DC advised to use only national flag made from cloth and not of plastic or paper. He assured to request the traders too to co-operate. "To create a festival atmosphere, all the office buildings have been asked to illuminate the premises on Aug. 14 and 15. Other commercial establishments too will be requested to join hands," said Gupta.

District Kannada Chaluvali Central Committee Chairman Muguru Nanjundaswamy pre-sent at the meeting requested the DC to felicitate about 30 freedom fighters of the district on the occasion.

The meeting was attended by District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal, Kannada Jagruti Committee member M.B. Vishwanath, President of the District Freedom Fighters' Association, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike President, District Health and Family Welfare Officer B.S. Nagaraja Rao, District Government Employees Association President B. Ramu, District Registrar, Assistant Commissioners, District Social Welfare Officer and Officers of various departments.
