As part of the Dasara festivities, the Kite Flying Contest, was inaugurated by District In-charge Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad at the Lalitha Mahal Helipad yesterday.
On the inaugural day, more than 100 kites of various shapes and sizes, displaying the best of the creative imagination of the kite enthusiasts from the city were seen fluttering in the sky. One of the kites even had the face of Chief Minister Siddharamaiah while another that of Basavanna. One more kite was designed like a one rupee coin. There were also colourful butterflies, birds, bats and bees flying in the sky.
The kites displayed by M. Gopal Patel of Ahmedabad attracted many people to the helipad.
Kite-flying competition was held in different categories this morning — below 12 years, between 12 and 23 years and 23 and above.
First prize for the group category carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 8,000 for second prize, Rs. 5,000 for third prize and two consolation prizes of Rs. 2,000 each. For individual categories, Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 will be awarded for first, second and third prizes respectively, apart from two consolation prizes of Rs. 1,000 each.
Special prizes of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 will also be awarded, apart from two consolation prizes of Rs. 1,000 each.
