A decision has been taken by the District Administration to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava on Nov. 1 on a grand scale. Officials of different departments and representatives of Pro-Kannada organisations met in a preliminary meeting in the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Wednesday and offered suggestions on celebrating the event on a grand scale.
There being many active non-Kannada organisations in the city, an opportunity should be given to them also to take part in the celebrations and add to the grandeur; all government offices should be illuminated on that day as well as flying Kannada flag on top of the buildings, were among the suggestions.
Exhibitors of films in the city were requested to screen Kannada movies in all the theatres during the month of Rajyotsava. Many participants in the meeting suggested felicitating of achievers in different fields of the city in addition to organising cultural programmes.
The District In-Charge Minister will offer worship at 8.30 am on Nov.1 at Sri Bhuvaneshwari Temple in Mysore Palace premises and later unfurl the Kannada flag as well as the national flag at the Town Hall at 9 am. The Minister will also address the gathering.
A procession of the image of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari will be taken out accompanied by school children's band and tableaux.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Mysore District Kan-nada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal, Pro-Kannada activists Thayur Vittalamurthy, Mugur Nanjundaswamy, M.B. Vishwanath and others were present at the meeting.
