Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem has urged the jewellers and pawn-brokers of the city to install CCTV cameras in their shops for their own security and help the Police in nabbing the chain-snatchers.

He was speaking at a mee- ting of the members of Mysore City Jewellers’ Association, Pawn Brokers’ Association and Gold and Silver Craftsmen’s Association at the Police Commissioner’s office in Nazarbad on Friday.

Dr. Saleem said that the incidents of chain-snatching were on the rise in city and it had been revealed through investigations that the chain-snatchers either pledged or sold the stolen gold ornaments to the jewellers or pawn-brokers. He urged them not to encourage the criminal elements and cautioned that in such cases, there is a provision under the law to initiate action against those who buy stolen objects.

He also advised the jewellers and pawn-brokers to obtain detailed information about those who approach them to sell or pledge gold ornaments. He also suggested they install CCTV cameras in the shops so that the seller’s photo can be captured and chain-snatchers can be identified by the Police.

DCPs A.N. Rajanna and M.M. Mahadevaiah and others were present.
