Mysore, July 19 (SH&AB)- The statue of Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, the last King of the erstwhile princely State of Mysore will adorn the Hardinge Circle in City before this year’s Dasara festivities, declared MLA and Chief Minister’s Parliamentary Secretary S.A. Ramdas.

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day 92nd birthday celebration of Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar on Sunday in Jagan-mohan Palace auditorium under the auspices of Brahmavidya and Ursu Fraternity and Department of Kannada and Culture.

The statue of the last ruler of the city will be installed at Hardinge Circle aimed at securing a permanent place for the name of the ruler in the minds of the people, Ramdas disclosed.

The State Government having already issued the related order, work on the statue is in progress, he said adding the statue will be unveiled before Dasara festival.

A Music University is established in Mysore after the renowned vocalist late Dr. Gangubai Hanagal. However, in the backdrop of mounting pressures from the public to name the Music University after Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, a decision on the matter would be taken after discussing with the Chief Minister, he said.

Earlier, the audience were enthralled by concerts of Karnatak Classical Music and Hindustani Classical Music. Veteran Karnatak Classical Music Vocalist Vidwan R.K. Srikantan was honoured with the title ‘Chitprabhananda’ and adorned with gold anklet (kadaga).
