It is almost certain that theatre person Janardhan (Janni) will be named as the Director of Rangayana, the post which has been lying vacant after Dr. B.V. Rajaram was shunted out in the month of March.

Sources said that one of the Ranga Samaja members proposed Janardhan’s name during the meeting chaired by Kannada and Culture Minister Umashree yesterday, who is also the President of Ranga Samaja. But, the Minister is said to have asked the members to propose at least four names to avoid ex-parte decision. However, a final decision in this regard is expected to be taken on Sept. 5, during the Ranga Samaja’s meeting to be held at Rangayana in Mysore.

Another major decision that emerged in the meeting was to retain the Rangayana artistes in Mysore and not the transfer them. Recently, the actors were summoned back to Mysore from Dharwad and Shimoga, where they were transferred, to be a part of a play which is being directed by Brazil based theatre director Elisa.

According to sources, the Rangayana artistes will be instructed to stage the old plays and also new plays. A decision to organise a nine-day theatre festival during the Dasara was also taken in the meeting, said the sources.

Rangayana will be celebrating its silver jubilee in the month of January, 2014 and discussions on organising theatre fests and seminars during the celebrations were also held during the meeting. While the decision of appointing a Director for Rangayana is being taken up and with the artistes returning back to Mysore, activities at Rangayana is expected to return to its normalcy.
