The inmates of City Central Jail proved their prowess in singing by presenting a delectable music programme at P. Kalinga Rao Gana Mantap at Dasara Exhibition Grounds here yesterday through their troupe ‘Parivarthan Melodies.’
Amidst depression of being confined to the four walls of their cells for offences probably committed at the spur of a moment under rage, the jail inmates belted popular Kannada, Hindi and Telugu film hits one after another with perfect control over tune and rhythm challenging any professional singer.
The rendition of Kannada songs like Pyar ge aagbittaithe..., Khali quarter bottle hange life... and Kuladalli Keelyavudo Huchappa... received a thunderous applause from the crowd not just for the perfect rendition but for the hidden talent of the jail inmates who are always viewed with a stigma.
The twelve members of the troupe were dressed in an attractive uniform all of them radiating confidence and exuberance with the crowd wondering about the troupe assuming that it was probably a popular one from city; when the reality was made known, they were surprised. Jail Superintendent K.N. Jayasimha, Jailor and Troupe Manager V. Suresh and others were present.
The music trainers P.S. Murthy and Ganesh told Star of Mysore that the troupe would perform at the All India D.C. Conference to be held at the premises of Parappana Agrahara jail in Bangalore on Oct. 25 for which 25 Hindi film songs have been selected.
