Mysore Citizen Advisory Bureau (MYCAB) JSS Law College in association with Karnataka Consumers’ Forum, Mysore had organised an interaction programme on ‘Consumer Issues: Challenges and Remedies’ as part of the 10th anniversary of Grahaka Tharanga, a newspaper published by the college, at the Moot Court Hall, college premises this morning.

Retd. Justice Chardrashekaraiah who is also the former Chairman of State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, who inaugurated the interaction programme called upon to protect consumerism and the interest of consumers as per the Consumer Protection Act.

He further said that this was the only reason the Govt. had constituted Consumer Councils in every district and regretted that Consumer Councils in some places were not functioning properly and called upon the Govt. to revive these Councils.

He further said that there was a need to create awareness amongst the general public about Consumer Council, State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, National Commission and Karnataka Consumer Forum so that the public may utilise these properly.

Later, an interaction between the students and Justice (Retd.). Chardrashekaraiah was held.

Dr. Sudheer Shetty, Chairman, Labland Biotechs Pvt. Ltd., Mysore, Nagendra Murthy, Professor of Constitutional Law, JSS Law College and Dr. S.P. Thirumala Rao, Editor, Grahaka Tharanga and others were present.

A day-long workshop on ‘Industrial Laws: Problems and Challenges’ organised jointly by JSS Law College and National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), Mysore, will be held tomorrow at the Silver Jubilee Hall of the college.

The workshop will be inaugurated by S.K. Vontikodi, Presiding Officer, Industrial Tribunal, Mysore, at 9.30 am. R. Guru, Chairman, N.R. Groups, Mysore, will be the chief guest and the workshop will be presided over by Prof. K.S. Suresh, Principal, JSS Law College, Mysore.

The valedictory of the workshop will be held on the same day at 5 pm in which Ashwathanarayan, District Judge, Labour Court, Mysore, will deliver the valedictory address and release the book titled ‘An Update on Business Laws for Commerce and Management,’ authored by Vasanthy Reena Williams, member, NIPM and faculty of Teresian College.
