Mysore, Feb. 2 (KCU&HT)- A shabby neglected park, not frequented by anyone, opposite Police Public School on Mahadevapura Road in Gayatripuram II Stage was a hub of activity yesterday with hundreds of local residents thronging the place.
It was learnt that an idol of a deity had emerged inside the said park and soon the message or hearsay spread like wildfire and people made a beeline to the park to have a glimpse of the rare idol.
Referring the idol to that of Daddathayamma, Yellamma, Renukamma, Bisilu Maramma and such, people began offering prayers frantically. People from Gandhinagar, Kyathamaranahalli, Nazarbad and Udayagiri too joined the crowd. As a result, traffic on Mahadevapura Road got disrupted for about two hours.
On receiving information, Udayagiri Police rushed to the spot and dispersed the crowd. Amid strong protest, the idol was shifted to the Archaeology Department. As a precautionary measure, Police had maintained security till late night.
A person is learnt to have seen a black carved stone buried in ground, partially visible. He reportedly got the idol-looking stone removed from the ground. It is learnt that he also saw two small idols of Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva with a trishul in hand. He reportedly informed the matter to people assembled at the nearby Shaneeshwara Temple.
People arrived soon and got the so-called idol washed and began offering puja.
They even insisted on getting the area cleaned and construct a temple.
Udayagiri Police Inspector Mathew Thomas and staff inspected the place.
