The popular Ramya Hotel on Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Avenue, off JLB Road, which was running on a contract basis at the premises of the Cosmopolitan Club (CC) in city, was transferred to the Club yesterday without any hassle or protest.
Heeding to the High Court order, the hotel proprietor G.B. Govindaraja Shetty’s son G.G. Mahendra handed over the keys of the hotel to Club President R.G. Narasimha Iyengar at 1 pm yesterday in the presence of the members of Club Management Committee and senior members of the Club, one day prior to the notice period served by the Court.
The two-year-long legal battle to take possession of the hotel premises thus has ended on a happy note to provide the needed space for the Club to expand further.
The hotel building was built at the premises of the Club spanning 252x150 ft on Radhakrishnan Avenue. In 1980, the building was leased to Ramya Hotel for a contracted period of 30 years. Accordingly, the hotel building should have been vacated in Dec. 2010.
Several senior members of the Club had launched a struggle earlier to get the hotel vacated. Lakshmi theatre proprietor and a senior club member Srikantan had even staged a Satyagraha in a true Gandhian style.
