Around 100 guest lecturers from various parts of the city staged a protest in front of the office of Regional Joint Director, Department of Collegiate Education, Hunsur Road, against the dismissal of guest lecturers working in various colleges.
The protesters alleged that they were paid a mere Rs. 650 per month as honorarium from the past one year and said that the salaries were not being paid on a regular basis. They also alleged that they were treated with contempt.
MLA H.S. Shankaralingegowda, who visited the spot, extended support to the protestors. He later met Jt. Director T.N. Prabhakar and demanded that the problems related to guest lecturers be solved immediately.
The protestors also demanded that Higher Education Minister C.T. Ravi and Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar too look into the matter. Later, on assurance from the Jt. Director Prabhakar about taking up the matter with senior officials, the guest lecturers called off their protest.
