Minister G.T. Devegowda (GTD), who had floor-crossed from JD(S) to BJP, yesterday rejoined the JD(S) at a massive rally called Marali Manege (Back to home), held at Maharaja College ground in city.

JD(S) State President H.D. Kumaraswamy and JD(S) Legislative Party President H.D. Revanna welcomed back GTD into the party fold, along with a large number of supporters. The programme, which commenced at 2.45 pm, concluded at 5.15 pm.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumaraswamy opined that the results of the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections will be an indicator for his party to have a prominent show in the ensuing Assembly elections.

He claimed that the JD(S) was confident of winning Mysore, Davangere, Hubli-Dharwad and Gulbarga Corporations too. He appealed to the people to support his party for better governance and highlighted achievements and programmes during his tenure as Chief Minister.

“People in the State are betrayed by BJP with false promises and it has done little by way of development during the last five years of rule. This provided a good chance for JD(S) to come to power,” he added.

Earlier, G.T. Devegowda publicly apologised to the JD(S) leadership for quitting and joining BJP ahead of 2008 Assembly polls and stated that he realised his mistake. Kumaraswamy said JD(S) was confident of winning at least 10 out of 11 seats and asked the party workers to bury the differences and work for the party’s success.

He asked farmers not to commit suicide and promised to waive farm and tractor loans if his party came to power.

“I will give Rs. 5,000 every month for six months to women from the fifth month of their pregnancy for safe delivery and for ensuring the baby’s health. The monthly widow pension will be increased to Rs. 1,500 from Rs. 400,” Kumaraswamy said.

Kumaraswamy’s wife Anitha Kumaraswamy, Bhavani Revanna, Lalitha G.T. Devegowda, Harish Gowda, former Minister B.A. Jeevijaya, P. Govindaraju, M. Shivanna, Madhu Bangarappa, S.R. Mahesh, M. Mahadevu, Cheluvarayaswamy, Sandesh Swamy and others were present.
