Mysore, Apr. 5 (SH)- Karnataka Housing Board Chairman and former Minister G.T. Devegowda (GTD) has been elected unopposed as President of District Co-operative Union.

The nomination papers were scrutinised in the office of the Co-operative Union on Chamaraja Double Road here on Sunday.

GTD from Mysore Taluk Agricultural Credit Co-operative Society Wing, Sudhakar, with JD(S)-Congress support and Purandara had filed nomination papers. However, the nomination papers of the last two candidates were rejected as the same persons had seconded the proposal of both candidates.

The election of GTD was made simple. JD(S) leader Mahadevaswamy objected to the election result stating that the administration had misused the machinery. Purandara had not submitted his nomination papers until the closing time fixed for filing but had filed during scrutiny of papers and although the scrutiny of papers had been completed by 11.30 am, the outcome was announced only after 2.30 pm. Following this a protest stir was staged for sometime causing disturbance at the venue.

Alleging that the entries in the nomination papers submitted for the election of District Co-operative Union had been altered, MLA M. Sathyanarayana, JD(S) leader Mahadevaswamy and supporters had staged a protest stir in front of the Union Office.
