Chief Minister Siddharamaiah has assured to hold special programmes to develop greenery in the State by encouraging afforestation schemes.

The CM was greeted by Congress members of Mysore Zilla Panchayat at his office in Vidhana Soudha here yesterday in an innovative way by offering saplings instead of the conventional bouquets. They symbolically appealed to the CM to hold special programmes extensively in State to promote afforestation.

Siddharamaiah said that Departments of Forest and Social Forestry would be urged to create Green Parks in schools and colleges. He added that Women’s Associations would be entrusted with the responsibility to promote greenery in towns and cities by planting saplings beside roads and at open spaces.

The ZP members felicitated Ministers H.K. Patil, H.S. Mahadev Prasad, V. Sreenivas Prasad and Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa by offering saplings. The saplings were planted at the premises of Vidhana Soudha.

ZP members Shashikala, Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, Nandini Chandrashekar, Sudha Mahadevaiah, Renuka Malegowda, Kaveri Shankar, Renuka Nagaiah, Javarappa, Mahadev, Javaregowda, K. Mahadev, Siddegowda, Rachaiah, Ramesh, Madappa, Manjula Raj and Revamma were present.
