The 3rd annual Veeragase Folk Festival, organised by Abhinava Sri Veerabhadreshwara Nruthya Tanda, Gowrishankarnagar, was inaugurated by Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji at the Ashram premises on Ooty Road here this morning.

Inaugurating the event, the Swamiji emphasised the need to retain and encourage folk arts which depict the rural culture and tradition of our country.

The Swamiji also donated Rs.1 lakh to Abhinava Sri Veerabhadreshwara Nruthya Tanda.

On the occasion, the organisers felicitated 20 personalities including folklore expert Prof. P.K. Rajashekar and other folklore experts and individuals who have been encouraging the folk art.

Abhinava Sri Veerabhadreshwara Nruthya Tanda has invited 15 teams from Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Mandya districts who will be presenting different folk arts such as Veeragase, Kamsale, Gombe Kunita and other folk arts during the day long festival.

Prior to the inauguration of the festival, the participating teams took out of procession from Gowrishankarnagar to Ashram premises.

Sri Datta Vijayananda Thirtha Swamiji, Junior Pontiff of Ganapati Ashram, Sri Shantha Veerendra Swamiji of Sri Kolada Mutt, Bangalore, Sri Gurushantha Swamiji of Sri Kuderu Mutt, Mysore, Sri Nataraja Swamiji of Sri Gurulinga Jangama Mutt, Gavadagere, M.K. Baladevakrishna, Director, Department of Youth Services and Sports were present on the occasion.
