The foundation laying ceremony for Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research will be held soon at PKTB Hospital premises on KRS Road here. The previous State Government had identified 15 acres of land for the construction of Jayadeva hospital and had also sanctioned Rs. 70 cr. for the project out of which Rs. 15 cr. was already released.

According to the proposal, 100 staff members should be appointed in addition to 100 staff members (including doctors) already working in Jayadeva at KR Hospital premises; laboratory should be constructed with new operation theatre equipments in place along with efficient Cardiologists.

Speaking to SOM, Jayadeva Institute Mysore Head Dr. Sadanand said that though a date for the laying of foundation stone was fixed it had to be postponed since the elections was announced. Now, since new the Government has taken over, the matter will be discussed with the Chief Minister and a fresh date will be fixed.

The hospital will carry out Open Heart Surgery, Pediatric Heart Surgery and treatment for all other kinds of heart diseases once the hospital starts functioning. Due to the efforts of former District In-charge Minister Shobha Karandlaje, Jayadeva unit was started at KR Hospital premises in Mysore. Till now the hospital has been treating 150 patients on average every day, he added

Dr. Sadanand added that the hospital had conducted 700 angiogram and angioplasty and 15,000 people were successfully treated as in-patients. He mentioned that the pre- sent hospital was 90-bedded which included 25 ICU, CCU, Ambulance, Laboratory and ECG facilities.

Jayadeva Hospital has been providing emergency treatment for patients suffering from heart attack. This not only helped the BPL card holders but also the middle class and rich class. Dr. Sadanand mentioned that Jayadeva Hospital, Mysore Unit, was also catering to people from neighbouring Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Kodagu and Hassan districts.
