The All Karnataka Folk Artistes Federation has demanded stipulation of Rs. 5,000 as honorarium to each folk artiste taking part in the Dasara procession this year.

Addressing a press meet at Pathrakarthara Bhavan this morning, Federation President Jogila Siddaraju said the Jumboo Savari is the main attraction in Dasara with hundreds of folk artistes taking part.

“Folk artistes are a neglected lot with successive governments failing to take measures for their upliftment,” he maintained.

Reiterating the demand for stipulating Rs. 5,000 for each folk artiste or Rs. 50,000 to every folk troupe comprising of 10 members, Siddaraju urged the authorities to provide all necessary facilities including boarding and lodging during Dasara, besides arranging for transportation of artistes coming from far off places.

Urging the Government to make its stand clear on their demands within Sept. 25, Siddaraju claimed that artistes from far off places will skip Dasara and even if some artistes arrive, they will be made to take out a procession in the opposite direction of Jumboo Savari as a mark of protest.

He also urged the authorities not to entertain fake artistes with letter heads and visiting cards.

A few days ago, the government had announced a hike in the honorarium from Rs. 500 to 750 for every folk artistes.

Federation Hon. President Hassan Raghu, Vice-President Bhaskar Das Yekkaru, folk artistes Mahadevappa and Kiralu Mahesh were present.
