Plastic and rubber materials worth Rs. 50,000 were destroyed in a fire on Mahadevapura road near Rammanahalli here yesterday afternoon. It is reported that plastic and rubber materials, which were stored in a vacant place, caught fire causing panic among residents who noticed thick smoke billowing from the area at about 12.30 pm and informed the Fire Station who pressed 3 fire tenders into service.

Regional Fire Officer Basavanna, who spoke to SOM this morning, said that one fire tender each from Saraswathipuram, Bannimantap and Hebbal were pressed into service and had to struggle for nearly five hours from 1.30 pm to prevent the fire from spreading further with the help of JCBs.

Meanwhile, onlookers who thronged the spot were seen looking curiously at the operation despite the heat emitted from the fire. As a precautionary measure, fire tenders were pressed into service today morning also. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
