Teacher's Day commemorating the birth anniversary of former President of India late Dr. S. Radhakrishnan was celebrated at various venues in city.
At Kalamandira: A programme was organised jointly by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and the Department of Public Instruction.
Inaugurating the programme, MLC G. Madhusudan lauded the Ksheera Bhagya and Vitamin Supplement scheme of the Government and suggested that the responsibility of monitoring and managing the scheme should be given to a separate department so that teachers could concentrate only on teaching.
MLA Vasu assured to address the woes of the students. Several teachers were felicitated on the occasion by MLA G.T. Devegowda. Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, ZP CEO P.A. Gopal, MLAs Tanveer Sait and M.K. Somashekar, DDPI B.K. Basavaraj, DIET Deputy Director M. Shivamadappa, Government Employees Association President H.K. Ramu, ZP member Lalitha G.T. Devegowda and others were present.
At Crawford Hall: Marking Teachers' Day, a programme was organised by the University of Mysore at Crawford Hall.
Delivering a lecture on 'Issues in Higher Education in India', former VC of Mysore University Prof. M. Madaiah regretted that quality education was not available in the country despite the number of Universities, colleges and teaching faculty increasing tremendously over the years and advised the students to be inquisitive and develop a flair for gaining knowledge.
Ten Professors of Mysore University were felicitated. VC Prof. K.S. Rangappa presided. Registrar C. Basavaraju and others were present.
