Dy. Commissioner Dr. Ramegowda yesterday assured Police protection to three women of a family from Hunsur taluk in the district, who have sought permission for euthanasia (mercy killing), fearing life threat from their relatives over property dispute.
Answering queries from media persons after reassuming charge as the DC of Mysore district, Dr. Ramegowda said he would summon both the parties and try to broker a truce within the ambit of law. He added that since the issue was a civil dispute, he would direct the authorities concerned to look into it.
Protection for family
Meanwhile, Child Development Programme Officer (CDPO) Jayasheela yesterday said in Hunsur: “Protection has been given to the family of six members including three women — 80-year-old Mayamma, her daughters Jayamma and Savitri — from Devarahalli in the taluk.” They had submitted a petition to the Mysore DC, fearing life-threat from their relatives over a property dispute. The DC had directed the CDPO to conduct an inquiry into the issue.
Jayasheela said that an inquiry by Women and Child Development Department Officer Venkatappa revealed that the children of Mayamma’s brother-in-law Rajegowda (her husband Kempegowda’s brother) were harassing Mayamma, Jayamma & Savithramma and also their family members Sowmya, Ravikumar and Mallikarjun which had forced the three women to seek permission for euthanasia.
A complaint has been lodged at Bilikere Police Station against Rajegowda.
Meanwhile, an assault case filed against Mayamma at Bilikere Police Station on May 28 has come to light.
It has been complained that she had assaulted a member of Rajegowda’s family.
