In a swift operation, officials of the Election Vigilance Squad seized Rs. 19.5 lakh cash being transported in a car on Mysore-Bangalore road this morning.
Acting on a tip off, the officials led by Jyothi and Basavaraju, intercepted the car (KA12/6714) which was heading towards Bangalore at Kalastawadi check-post in Srirangapatna taluk.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that a total of Rs. 19.5 lakh unaccounted money was being transported in the car, following which the car owner-cum-driver Shoib, said to be a resident of Virajpet and two others travelling in the car were taken into custody.
The money was said to be kept in three different places in the car, with Rs. 10 lakh in a bag, Rs. 5 lakh in the car dickey and Rs. 4.5 lakh under the rear seat.
Upon questioning, Shoib is learnt to have told the authorities that he was carrying money to purchase gold in Bangalore.
