Dr. Geetha K. Avadhani, Dean and Director, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), is set to retire from her service tomorrow.

Dr. Geetha joined the service as Assistant Surgeon at Local Fund Dispensary, Nazarbad, during 1980s.

She completed her MBBS from Karnataka Institute of Medical Science, Hubli, in the year 1976 and also completed her Master of Surgery (MS) from Mysore Medical College before joining the service. After serving for two years as Assistant Surgeon, Dr. Geetha Avadhani joined as a lecturer in MMC.

Later, she also served as Assistant Professor, Professor, Head of the Department of General Surgery and Medical Superintendent of K.R. Hospital before being appointed as Dean and Director of MMC&RI.

Dr. Geetha Avadhani has served as the Dean and Director for around two-and-a-half years. Though she is to retire tomorrow, sources said that the State Government might extend her service.

Sources also said that there were several aspirants for the post which included Dr. B.G. Sagar, Medical Superintendent, K.R. Hospital; Dr. H. Hanumanthappa, HoD, Department of Skin and STD, MMC&RI and Dr. P.S. Kaladagi, Head of the Department, Department of Orthopedics, MMC&RI.
