It is unfortunate that the construction of a memorial for Swami Vivekananda in Mysore has become a contentious issue, regretted renowned litterateur Dr.C.P. Krishnakumar (CPK).

In a press release, the veteran writer said it is necessary to rectify the misconceptions regarding the issue.

Firstly, there is no question of closing the NTM School, but just a merger. The outcry that a Kannada school is on the verge of closure is meaningless. What can be said about the argument that the memorial rises from the grave of Kannada school, the litterateur questioned.

Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama is open for all. It is not true that the Ashram has distanced itself from the poor, he said adding that 'Daridra Devo Bhava' where the poor are compared to God, was the idealism practiced by Swami Vivekananda.

Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama has been carrying out the works related to Kannada very well. Now it has got an international dimension and is becoming a scholarly centre for universal upliftment, which is a welcoming and laudable move. This should not become a battle ground for vested interests, Dr. CPK opined.

Above all, how can any Kannadiga not remember with gratitude that Rashtrakavi Kuvempu was a product of Sri Ramakrishna Ashram? What would have been the reaction of Kuvempu if he was alive today? Everyone should think about it. According to him, was not Vivekananda "Navayugacharya?" Dr. CPK sought to know.

Hence, the litterateur said, no person should narrow-mindedly oppose the Vivekananda Youth Memorial (Spoorthi Kendra) but extend whole-hearted support. He requested all the citizens to support the memorial which would be a harbinger of good tidings and create awareness among the people.
