Tension prevailed at K.R. Hospital in city this afternoon for an hour when all the doctors staged a symbolic protest over the incident of four duty doctors of the hospital being assaulted by the family members of a patient who was undergoing treatment at the hospital for the past three days and died this morning.
The deceased is Muthu Venkateshaiah (75), a resident of Boodubalu village in Kollegal taluk. He was admitted to the hospital on June 13 and was reportedly undergoing treatment for kidney failure and other ailments. His son M. Mahesh and three other relatives, claiming that Muthu died because of the doctors’ negligence, allegedly assaulted the four duty doctors.
A Police Constable in mufti, who had gone to the doctors’ rescue, was also reportedly assaulted by the irate men.
Devaraja Police have arrested the four persons accused of assaulting the doctors and registered a case.
The doctors who were assaulted are Dr. Riyaz Ahmed, Dr. B. Santosh, Dr. N.S. Ravichandra and Dr. C. Shakti Kumar.
The arrested persons also have lodged a counter-complaint at the Police Station alleging that the doctors had assaulted them and threatened them when they questioned the death of Muthu who, they claimed, had died because of doctors’ negligence.
