With just two days left for the Mysore City Corporation (MCC), Municipal Corporation and Town Panchayat polls, the District Administration is all set to conduct free and fair elections on Mar. 7.

Addressing the media this morning, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ramegowda said the elections will be held to a total of 204 Wards including that of MCC. A total of 846 polling stations which includes 686 polling stations for MCC will be set up for the polling day in which a total of 7,62,671 voters including 6,20,694 in Mysore city limits will be casting their votes.

Dr. Ramegowda said that among the 686 polling stations in city, 262 have been identified as sensitive and 164 as hyper-sensitive stations. There are 846 polling stations in Mysore district out of which 317 have been declared as sensitive and 203 as hyper-sensitive polling booths. A total of 1,071 candidates are in fray in 204 Wards including 433 candidates for 65 Wards of MCC.

The District Administration will setup 1,000 Ballot Units and 800 Control Units for conducting elections to MCC, while 1,230 Ballot Units and 1,030 Control Units will be setup for Municipal Corporations and Town Panchayats in the district.

Around 260 vehicles have been deployed to transport election officials from mustering centres to polling booths. A total of 3,736 election officials have been appointed. The district administration has set up 204 polling booths, appointed 934 Presiding Officers, 934 1st Polling Officers, 934 2nd Polling Officers and 934 3rd Polling Officers for election process.

Dr. Ramegowda said that it was mandatory for the voters to produce their Voter ID cards while casting their votes. In case, a voter does not possess the ID card, he/she can produce any of 21 documents listed which includes Passport, Drivers’ License, PAN card, Kisan Patra etc.

The public campaigning for election ended at 7 am this morning and political parties and independent candidates were restricted from holding public functions related to elections, campaigning through SMS, FM Radio or TV channels.
